Wannanup/Falcon/Avalon Beach
Falling under the City of Mandurah, many think of Wannanup and Falcon as Port Bouvard. Both suburbs hover on a peninsula between the Dawesville Estuary and the Indian Ocean and offer the epitome in affordable waterside living. Bisected by the Old Coast Road, these sleepy coastal suburbs have a population of around 8,000 and are dotted with holiday homes of those living in Perth, just an hour north regularly popping down for the weekend.
Perched alongside the Port Bouvard Bridge, Wannanup is famed for its canal-side living and the neighbourhood is well serviced with several cafes, including the The Cut Tavern Bar and Bistro. Named after Falcon Bay and popular for fishing, Falcon was formerly known as Miami and home to the award-winning Miami Bakehouse.
The Indian Ocean side of Falcon and Wannanup offer surfing, stunning lookouts and beaches, including Avalon Beach. Several reserves are dotted along the Dawesville Estuary, including Pleasant Grove Estuary and Novara Beach Reserve teeming with birdlife.
