Bridgetown
Nestled on the Blackwood River, Bridgetown is the scene of many a tree-change after city dwellers visit for a weekend and fall in love with the quaint main street and lush pastures. Steeped in history, the town was gazetted in 1968 and classified as a Heritage Town in 2000 by the National Trust. Many heritage buildings are still operational today housing cafes, specialty stores, boutique accommodation and eclectic shops.
As part of the state’s southwest region, the surrounding areas feature wineries, cideries, distilleries, breweries and gourmet food. Outdoor adventures are a plenty in this region, including bushwalking, cycling, mountain biking, canoeing and horse riding.
Falling under the Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes, the town is fully self-sufficient with supermarkets, schools, parks and a hospital. Average property prices are a reasonable $410,000 catering well to downsizers, families and tree-changers.
