The Block’s Youngest Contestants and Most Experienced Auctioneer Win Big with $3.62M
Queensland newlyweds Tess and Luke shocked the nation when they became the youngest contestants on The Block to sell the biggest house for an unprecedented sum of money, a whopping $3.62 million which is reportedly the largest sale in the history of The Block. With the requisite reserve set at $2.99 million across all houses, Tess and Luke pocketed a jaw-dropping $630,000 as well as the $100,000 winner’s prize, a life-changing amount for ‘the kids from Cairns’.
A perfectly paced auction led by one of hockingstuart’s most senior and seasoned auctioneers David Wood with over 9 Block auctions under his belt and over 3000 auctions in his lifetime, led to an animated battle for House 2. David poetically addressed the crowd and opened the auction, “In the last few weeks or so, Australia has seen this home transition from underdog, dark horse through to a warm favourite. And Luke and Tess have not only completed a beautiful home, but they have transformed these spaces that are close to us today. And the reason it enjoys such popularity is the feedback that we’ve had from you, the buyers.”
The Oslo buzzed with celebration as all five couples were able to sell their houses and walk away with a few grand in hand, but Tess and Luke took centre stage as not only as the celebrated 2019 Block winners but also the youngest first-time contenders on The Block.
“We cannot believe we’ve just won the biggest Block ever,” exclaimed a happy Luke. “$730,000 is more money than we could have ever imagined having in the bank.” Tess chimed in, “In our lifetime!”
A huge and heartfelt congratulations to our hockingstuart duo and our very own estate agents David Wood and Stephanie Evans who brought home the big win on auction day to make Block history. We look forward to a continued market upswing and increased buyer sentiment in the quarter ahead.
