Kiama
A scenic coastal village on Sydney’s South Coast, Kiama delights visitors and locals alike with year-round events, attractions and some of the most breathtaking scenery in the region.
Located just 90 minutes drive south of Sydney, Kiama is a juxtaposition of green rolling hills and rugged coastline. Kiama is also home to the world’s largest blowhole, an attraction it’s most famous for. Sitting majestically at Blowhole Point near the town centre, the infamous blowhole is a sea-level rock cavity that explodes water high into the air when the right mix of wind and waves compress simultaneously, concluding with a crowd-pleasing and triumphant ‘oomph’ sound at the end of each spurt.
Along with its quirky blowhole, Kiama attracts thousands of visitors each year with its quaint village charms and laidback way of life. With so much to explore in town including Pilot’s Cottage Museum, charming cafes and peaceful beachfront promenade, you’re forgiven if you forget that there are nine luxurious beaches to explore nearby, not to mention a scenic coastal walk, pristine golf courses and historic Jamberoo just down the road.
With so much to see and do in Kiama, the best way to take in the natural beauty of the region and all its glory is on the 22-kilometre Kiama Coast Walk. Beginning at Minnamurra and concluding at Blowhole Point, the Kiama Coast Walk shows you the best of Kiama’s picturesque headlands, beaches and lookouts.
