Melbourne’s top-rated lifestyle suburbs uncovered

A stone’s throw from the beach or river, an easy commute to the city, nearby parklands – what more could you want in a neighbourhood?

Analysis by shows St Kilda West earnt the title of “Australia’s most lifestyle-friendly suburb” thanks to its beachfront location and proximity to the Melbourne’s CBD.

Key lifestyle factors measured in the report were access to education, parks, beaches and distance from the CBD.

St Kilda West won the coveted title thanks to having green space, Port Phillip Bay and nearby schools, shops and transport all on its doorstep. Nearby Albert Park and Port Melbourne followed closely in the top 10, with similar amenities within easy reach.

While these Bayside suburbs boast a tremendous lifestyle and are characterised by grand Victorian-era homes and tree-lined streets, they also come with a hefty price-tag of $2million plus.

Home hunters seeking similar lifestyle benefits that won’t hurt the hip pocket should look to the opposite side of the bay. Western suburbs such as Seaholme, Spotswood and Williamstown have more affordable homes – median house prices average around $1million in this region, with units on offer for $550,000.

In Melbourne, we’re spoilt for choice when it comes to lifestyle. If you’re on the house hunt this winter, make sure you’ve made a list of your lifestyle non-negotiables – chances are you’ll find somewhere that ticks all the boxes.
