How to rent during COVID-19

Can I still rent with Hockingstuart?

Yes, we have a lot of high-quality properties available to rent across Victoria. From apartments to family homes, we will help you find a property perfectly suited to your lifestyle. To view properties available, visit our website or contact your local Hockingstuart office directly.

Are routine inspections still being run?

Until further notice, face-to-face routine inspections will be put on hold. This doesn't mean we aren't able to complete them though. As an industry leader, we are well placed to work with our tenants to continue routine inspections virtually, whether it be over FaceTime, WhatsApp video or another kind of video technology. Chat to your local agent or property manager about what is possible in your area.

Can I view rental properties without open homes?

As per Government regulations and for the safety of our staff and tenants, we are no longer able to hold traditional open homes, however we can offer various alternatives to view our properties including virtual tours and private, appointment only inspections (with one person, or persons if they are from the same household). Chat to your local agent or property manager about what is possible in your area.

If I am moving to a new rental from outside of the area, how can I learn more about the suburb?

In partnership with Hockingstuart, Sitchu.com.au is a website that offers up-to-date suburb guides to learn more about what it's like to live, eat drink and play in a suburb. With the suburb search tool, you can explore everything there is to know about a suburb, without even leaving your house.

What happens if I need repairs or maintenance to my property?

We are still available to assist with any repairs and maintenance concerns. As always, tenants should continue to report repairs and maintenance as and when the need arises. Where possible, we are asking tenants to lodge their maintenance through the online tenant portal and supply clear photos of the issue.

Our team will assess repairs on a case by case basis and work with you to prioritise essential repairs.

Are property managers still contactable and available for meetings?

Yes, we are still open for business, however we will be conducting most meetings over the phone and via video conference plus you can communicate with us or via email. Most of our teams are now working remotely, but please know your property manager will always remain contactable.

What if I am having a hard time meeting rental payments?

The mental health, overall health and safety of our team and our owners and tenants remains our upmost priority. We appreciate that this is a difficult time and assure you we are here for you and will work with you to managing this ever-changing situation with the full support of the entire Hockingstuart network.

Please don't hesitate to contact your property manager directly, or one of our management team to discuss further and please keep us informed if your own situation changes so we can work together.

What is the process for ingoing and vacating tenants?

  • If a tenant is due to vacate, the process will be as normal, we will be ensuring we adhere to all relevant health and safety regulations.
  • If a tenant wishes to postpone vacating the property, and there is no reason that they must leave, we will work with the landlord and the tenant to find a mutual solution.
  • For tenants that are moving in, we can send all documentation electronically and we will still conduct our signup appointment via video.

If you have any further questions about ingoing and outgoing tenants, contact your property manager to discuss directly.

Who can I contact for more information?
