How Belle Property Hockingstuart is helping to fight children’s brain cancer

The Belle Property and Hockingstuart network is proud to once again support the fight against children’s brain cancer by participating in the annual fun run Connor's Run on Sunday 12 September.

With paediatric brain cancer the number one cancer killer in young Australians, Connor’s Run aims to raise funds for research and support children fighting brain cancer. Over the past eight years the run has become Australia’s biggest fundraiser for the cause, attracting thousands of participants each year and raising almost $1.4 million in 2020 alone.

Veteran Connor’s Run participant Scott McElroy, Principal of Belle Property Melbourne, Carlton and Albert Park, is looking forward to donning his runners and taking part again this year.

“We're proud to be once again supporting this incredible cause in 2021, and like in past years we are urging family, friends, colleagues and peers to dig deep and support us in raising as much as possible to help us make a difference to young people with brain cancer.

“Please head over to our dedicated fundraising page on the Connor’s run website to find out more and donate,” said Scott.

The run is the major fundraising event for the Robert Connor Dawes Foundation, founded in 2013 by Liz Dawes in memory of her son, Robert ‘Connor’ Dawes. Connor was diagnosed with brain cancer (anaplastic ependymoma) at the age of 17 and passed away a short 16 months later.

The Foundation’s mission is to change the odds for young people with brain cancer by funding Australian and international brain cancer research, supporting families with rehabilitation therapies and home assistance, and increasing awareness through educational programs and development projects.

CEO of Belle Property and Hockingstuart, Peter Hanscomb, said the Foundation’s mission has been close to his organisation’s heart for a number of years.

“Our network is fully committed to supporting the Foundation’s incredible work by taking part in Connor’s Run each year, with our team raising many thousands of dollars to date, including $94,000 in 2018 alone. To help us once more raise more vital funds for the Foundation please visit our team’s fundraising page and pledge your support,” he added.

Taking place each year in Melbourne, runners have the choice of two courses of either 18.8km or 9.6km length. The non-standard race lengths are in Connor’s honour, who was born on the 9th of June (9.6) and passed away aged 18 and 8 months. Both runs start at 8am with the entire event wrapping up with a party on the Yarra from 9.30am.

For those that can’t make the run, a special 'Your Way Any Day' fundraiser takes place throughout September, whereby participants are encouraged to raise money in their own unique way by ‘running, walking, rolling, hopping, skipping, jumping or dancing’ as much as they want throughout the month.
