Caulfield Parks and Playgrounds

An upwardly-mobile thriving suburb just southeast of Melbourne CBD, Caulfield is an eclectic neighbourhood comprised of multi-generational families, young parents with little ones and university students. Caulfield is best known for its prestigious Caulfield Racecourse which hosts the celebrated Caulfield Cup among others each year. Caulfield is both established, yet continuously evolving, which fosters a friendly, accepting nature amongst its residents. It is a healthy multicultural community that loves to come together - in cafes, restaurants, sporting events, parks and playgrounds of which there are plenty. When it comes to open green spaces that beckon the masses, Caulfield is king.

We asked our hockingstuart Caulfield local experts to share their favourite spots:

  1. Caulfield Park - North Caulfield: The largest open space in Glen Eira, Caulfield Park is made up of three distinct playgrounds - the Park Crescent Playground on the eastern end that features a long slide, obstacle course and modified basketball court and football oval, the Aviary Gardens along Inkerman Road and the Lakeside Playground next to the bowls club in the heart of this family-friendly expanse. From toddlers to grade schoolers to the “big kids”, Caulfield Park truly has something for everyone.

  2. Princes Park - South Caulfield: Home to many local sporting clubs with an array of facilities including tennis, cricket, and bowling, Princes Park is consistently animated with professional and aspiring athletes alike. The tree-lined walkways are perfect for strolling through with furry friends and socialising with other pet lovers.

  3. Harleston Park Elsternwick between Allison and Seymour Roads: Recently upgraded with a new picnic shelter, play areas, and toilet facilities, Harleston Park proudly holds the superlative of “Glen Eira’s longest slide” accessible by a climbing mound. This park draws families who enjoy BBQ catch-ups and relaxed weekend afternoons with no fuss.

  4. Booran Reserve: The latest addition to Parklands in the City of Glen Eira and unanimously voted “Melbourne’s best playground”, Booran Reserve is an outdoor playland mecca. The visual highlight and arguably most notable aspect is the the 10-metre-high double dome rope climbing net which is the first of its kind in Australia. Booran’s award-winning parklands design also includes an irresistible water feature for both young and old, in-ground trampolines, giant bird’s nest swing, oversized mouse wheel, picnic shelters with BBQs and much, much more.

  5. EE Gun Reserve: EE Gun Reserve is a gathering place for many local residents who like a little bit of everything. The 3.5 hectares of parklands include three sporting grounds for cricket, football and baseball. Thoughtfully-placed shade cloth in its picnic areas provide ideal spots for families and friends to camp out there for the afternoon while little ones play nearby. Although the popular option after a few hours of play is to stop into the locally beloved cafe Mr. Brightside, aptly-named for its cheery family-friendly atmosphere with big windows, exposed beams and a scrumptious kids menu.

When hockingstuart Caulfield’s Director Marshall Rushford was asked about his personal favourite local park, he simply couldn’t choose just one. “
As a local I love all of the Caulfield & Elsternwick’s beautiful parklands and depending on my mood and activity will take a stroll, run or spend time with family and friends at any one of these truly magnificent and iconic outdoor spaces.”
